The Red Charger can stand up on its own if you pullout the base and turn it 90 degrees.

Some Red bodies have experienced problems when using alternative batteries without the intelligent electronics present in the Red Brick Power system. Because the camera is not taking feedback from a third party battery it is possible to loose power without warning When running a third party battery too low it was possible to loose power in such a way that data could be lost

One solution to this problem was posted by richcam1on RedUser.net in this thread. Rich ran a battery level alarm off of the Unregulated DC out on the camera. This alarm allowed him to manually determine when the third party battery is running low, and prevent a surprise shutdown that could cause larger problems.
