Footage Conversion

Mac OSX
- Setup at least two firewire external harddrives for your project. Each drive will mirror your RAW footage. 2gigs/1minute
- Shoot your awesome Red short.
- When your card or Red-raid gets full, drag and drop all of your footage folders into a new folder on your mirrored hard drives.
- example: MIRROR A/PROJECT/DAY 001/CAMERA A/RAW FILES
- Verify data has been transferred. Erase. Repeat.
- At the end of the day, when it comes time to hand the footage over to your client, you can either give them a copy of all the RAW data or you can convert the RAW QT Proxy files into the codec of choice.
- To convert into another codec painlessly, first download Ian Bloom's script, http://www.redhax.net/AliasRDC/AliasRDC.zip
- Highlight, drag & drop the PARENT directory containing all of the day's clips. Drop this directory into the script-app. This will create a REFERENCE folder within the PARENT directory.
- Open the reference folder. You will see several folders that organize all of your clips into P, M, H, F, R3D folders. So instead of Red organizing each clip into its own separate folder, the script organizes all clips of a certain resolution into its own folder.
- Launch COMPRESSOR...create a COMPRESSOR DROPLET specifying your flavor of codec & destination.
- Now, go back into the reference folder. Open the H-quality folder. Apple+A within the folder to highlight all clips. Drag and drop these clips onto the newly created COMPRESSOR DROPLET.
Viola!
RINSE & REPEAT...
- side note: I am running Compressor 3 & if I try to submit a batch with over 50 files, the software will crash everytime.
